Tin Can Sailors, in cooperation with the Surface Navy Association and the Destroyer History Foundation, is hosting a 65th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Vella Gulf at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia on 7-10 August 2008. The event is open to all and the plans are to honor veterans of the six destroyers involved in the battle. Activities are still in the planning stages but include a dinner with guest speaker at the hotel on Friday evening, a hospitality room, oral history recording sessions, a memorial service, and a trip to Baltimore to the Commissioning of USS STERETT (DDG-104) on Saturday evening.
