Knox (DE/FF-1052) Class originally Destroyer Escorts (DE) and reclassified Frigates (FF)

We now have full color profiles for the Knox (DE/FF-1052) class. Three configurations are available for these ships: 1. As built without the spray shield on the bow and no air defense weapon on the stern; 2. without the spray shield on the bow but with an air defense weapon on the stern; and 3. with the spray shield on the bow and an air defense weapon on the stern. Only the last two versions are illustrated here.

1. In the standard as built version all units had the following equipment: Armament: one 5-in. MK 42 gun mount, one MK 112 ASROC ASW rocket launcher, and two triple MK 32 torpedo tube mounts, and one SH-2 LAMPS ASW helicopter. Fire Control: MK 68GFCS (5-in.), and MK 114 UFCS/SQS-26 Sonar (underwater battery). Radar: SPS-10 surface search/navigational, and SPS-40 air search. All units are available in this configuration. This configuration is not illustrated here.

2. This configuration is shown with the Aylwin (DE/FF-1081). It has all of the equipment listed in Item 1. above without a spray shield on the bow and with a MK 25 Sea Sparrow missile launcher on the stern. You can order this configuration with a MK 15 CIWS Phalanx (Gatling gun) instead of the MK 25 Sea Sparrow. If you do not specify which air defense weapon you want you will be sent Item 1. the standard as built configuration.

3. This configuration is shown with the Barbey (DE/FF-1088). It has all of the equipment listed in Item 1. above with a spray shield on the bow and with a MK 15 CIWS Phalanx (Gatling gun) on the stern. You can order this configuration with a MK 25 Sea Sparrow missile launcher instead of the MK 15 Phalanx. If you do not specify which air defense weapon you want you will be sent Item 1. the standard as built configuration.

Since the installation of the spray shield, MK 25 Sea Sparrow, and MK 15 Phalanx varied widely between ships you must specify what equipment you want when ordering. If you have any questions please call the TCS office. The following ships are available:
