Highlights
The USS Bigelow DD-942 Reunion was held in Baltimore, Maryland at the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor from October 11-15, 2017, with a total of 30 in attendance (15 shipmates). It was the “60th / 50th Anniversary Reunion” to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the ship’s commissioning and the 50th anniversary of the ship’s only casualty. GMG2 James W. Hamilton died on April 25, 1957 as a result of injuries sustained form the exploding of the 5 inch 54 caliber gun mount after continuously firing on the gun line off the coast of Vietnam.
The group toured the US Naval Academy at Annapolis and witnessed the noon formation of midshipmen. The group enjoyed a picnic menu at one dinner and then enjoyed a farewell banquet on Saturday before closing the reunion on Sunday, October 15. The hospitality room was abuzz with remembrances and one-upmanship stories!
