Highlights

The USS Manley (DD940) Association had another successful reunion. This time it was in Harrisburg, PA. We arrived on Wednesday, September 13 for a welcome aboard buffet dinner. The next day we went to the Gettysburg National Military Park to tour the grounds and visit the museum. We held our memorial service at the Visitors Center with the assistance of American Legion Post 321. We had our business meeting after the return from Gettysburg where the members voted to have the next two reunions in May of 2019 and September of 2020. Friday was a free day and many of the members visited the Hershey attractions and Amish country. Saturday evening we had our banquet at the Red Lion and then Sunday morning had our farewell breakfast as everyone headed for home. The host venue was the Red Lion Hotel. The service at the Red Lion could not have been better. We never heard the word NO. Our thanks to GM Randy Stuart, Director of Group Sales Brenda Ryneski and Convention Service Manager Mike Ross. The Gettysburg trip was handled by Premier1Limousine with Erick Fredenburg as the account executive. We had Calypso Entertainment for both evening dinner events. Bill and Tim were fabulous. Regardless of everything that happened it was one person who convinced the USS Manley Association to have the reunion in Harrisburg. We first met Sandy Stewart of the Harrisburg Convention and Visitor’s Bureau at a planner’s convention in 2014. She was always available for the Manley including a trip to Gettysburg as part of the planning and decision process. Without her most able assistance the reunion would not have been in Harrisburg. On behalf of the USS Manley (DD 940) Association I would like to offer a most sincere WELL DONE to all in Harrisburg who made this reunion a success. I can’t thank Vice President Ross McCalip and Secretary/Treasurer Bill Wyatt enough for all of their assistance, support and encouragement in order to make the reunion the success that it was.
